David Adelsheim founded Adelsheim Vineyard in 1971. As the original winemaker he established the winery's focus on rich, complex Pinot noirs and elegant white wines. In his role today as winery president and co-owner, he focuses his attention on marketing and sales, financial planning, and overall direction of vineyard and winemaking activities.
Throughout the years, David has done work in four important areas to benefit both the Oregon and American wine industries: grape and wine research, wine labeling, industry education and promotion. He helped the Oregon wine industry reach consensus on reorganizing its statewide organizations, helped create and nominate the members of the new Oregon Wine Board, was selected by the Oregon Governor to serve on the Board, and was elected as its first chair. He served as president of the Oregon Winegrowers Association and has undertaken the process of helping the industry find its direction on a number of controversial issues. David is recognized for his "outstanding service" to the industry and has played a vital role in building the Oregon wine industry and establishing its reputation worldwide.
