We've moved into the winery's underground barrel caves. Situated approximately five feet below the winery parking lot, the caves' unique design utilizes pre-cast concrete tunnel arches which were trucked to the winery. Following construction of the cave floor, the arches were lowered into place over a two-day period.
Inside, the four caves feature temperature-controlled floors incorporating gravel strips to mazimize humidity; this system creates an optimal environment for slow, cool ageing of our Pinot noir and Chardonnay while minimizing evaporation. The wines are aged for 9-12 months in small French oak barrels prior to bottling.
The barrel cave lighting is subtly enhanced by Ginny Adelsheim's terracotta light sconces which were engineered and installed by Bob Pickett. The sconce's grape leaf motif was inspired by the grapevines just outside Ginny's studio door at our Quarter Mile Lane vineyard.
