2013 WINDERLEA PINOT NOIR

TASTING NOTES

This lush, concentrated Pinot noir exhibits aromas of molasses and caramelized sugar, a balance of rich sweetness with a firm texture and mouth filling spice, blueberry, and other dark fruits. It would pair wonderfully with a variety of game and poultry dishes.

WINEMAKER’S THOUGHTS

Saturated pomegranate juice and a field of violets greet me in the glass. These aromas carry through onto the palate and are complimented by the warm flavors of baking spice and vanilla bean. This wine is effusive, textured, and sumptuous yet still elegant in its bearing—the filigreed tannins in the finish rein in the wine and bring balance. The extra years in bottle have served it well.

About Winderlea Vineyard

Winderlea Vineyard is a LIVE certified site rooted in the volcanic soils of the Dundee Hills. We get half of one block, at 1.1 acres of clone 667 on Riparia Gloire rootstock. 2012 TEMPERANCE HILL PINOT NOIR

Tasting notes

Full of black truffles, plum sauce, forest floor, black pepper, and pimento notes. It shows depth and liveliness in equal parts.

WINEMAKER’S THOUGHTS

Temperance Hill is one of the most distinctive vineyards in the Willamette Valley and this wine could simply come from nowhere else. It positively screams Temperance Hill. Laden with dark fruit notes and a dexterous underpinning of coffee and cedar bark, mushrooms and grilled meat, it’s complicated in all the best ways. The additional bottle age has served it well. I can’t help but wonder where it will be in another 10 years—it has the bones to last at least that long. Let’s find out!

About Temperance Hill Vineyard

One of the higher elevation vineyards in the Willamette Valley, the world-renowned Temperance Hill Vineyard is perched up in the Eola Amity Hills, where the impact of marine winds whip through the Van Duzer Corridor. We have been working exclusively with this block (at the time of this wine release) since we helped plant it in the early 2000s. All clone 667.

2011 BRYAN CREEK PINOT NOIR

TASTING NOTES

This complex wine exhibits layered aromas of wild raspberries, spice and pain grillé. On the palate, the wine shows firm acidity followed by hints of dark chocolate and a plush, velvety mouthfeel. It would pair wonderfully with grilled salmon, domestic and wild fowl, and other savory main dishes.

WINEMAKER’S THOUGHTS

Opening with layered notes of cigar box, dried lavender, cherry kirsch, and cinnamon this wine graces the palate with all that and more. It’s a delicate style, and certainly reflective of both the cool vintage and the longevity in bottle. To be honest it’s more fruit-forward than I was expecting; normally wines with this much age have moved past fruit into tertiary aged characters but this still has loads of vibrant raspberry notes. These flavors ride the length of the palate and carry the wine into the next sip. This is a delightful expression of Bryan Creek vineyard and I am overjoyed we held some of this wine back. What a treat.
